Ruben Amorim has made an impossible Manchester United admission which former boss Erik ten Hag agrees with.

Ruben Amorim has now taken charge of four Manchester United fixtures following his appointment as head coach last month.

He has had time to start assessing his players and learning about what he needs to succeed in the Premier League.

While it is certainly important for the Reds to become much better in several areas of the game, Amorim has reiterated how crucial the desire to run is for the team.

“It’s impossible to win the Premier League without a team like that,” he told reporters who asked about effort levels and running.

“That fight – every moment, runs back, runs forward. It’s impossible to win. If we want to win, we have to do it.

“Even with the best starting XI on the planet, without running, they will not win anything. It’s very clear.

“If you want to win the Premier League, you have to run like mad dogs. If not, we are not going to do it, that is clear.”

This has become clear quickly since Amorim took charge, with the Portuguese boss mentioning the importance of improving the physical levels of the team.

Former boss Erik ten Hag had the same message when he took over at the club in 2022, with the players being accused of poor fitness levels back then as well.

“As always, the highest standards,” Ten Hag said when asked about the fitness regime in July 2022. “You expect the max.

“Of course, there is still always room for improvement because we are in pre-season and we know that.

“But we will play our best and demand the max from the team and the players every day, every training session and every match.”

The main difference seems that in Ten Hag’s system, players were often running long distances as a result of the system, rather than to compliment it.

Huge gaps in the midfield led to players having to chase shadows and that eventually led to uncertainty about the idea.

Right now, Amorim has everyone on side about his principles and keeping it that way is how he can succeed.
