Ruben Amorim makes fresh Kobbie Mainoo decision this week as 10 clubs eyeing potential transfer

Ruben Amorim has seemingly made a fresh decision surrounding Kobbie Mainoo this week as his future at Manchester United appears uncertain.

Kobbie Mainoo has been an unused substitute during both of Manchester United’s opening two Premier League games this season.

Shortly after United’s travelling support at Craven Cottage were chanting ‘attack, attack, attack’, Ruben Amorim opted to bring on two central defenders while Mainoo remained on the bench.

This has understandably led to concerns about the Academy graduate’s position under Amorim and fresh reports have suggested that an exit before deadline day is not entirely off the cards.

The United boss claimed that Mainoo was fighting with Bruno Fernandes for a place in the team, and the club captain is rarely out of the lineup at Old Trafford.

Amorim makes fresh Mainoo decision this week

It has now been reported by MailSport that Amorim has decided to give Mainoo his first minutes of the season this week, with the 20-year-old in line to start against League Two outfit Grimbsy Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

He is likely to play alongside Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte in the midfield pivot, with Fernandes either rested or in the frontline.

Mainoo will be hoping to prove a point to the United boss in that game but the aforementioned report explained how he is also weighing up his options ahead of the transfer deadline.

It was added that there are 10 top clubs in the Premier League and around Europe who are monitoring his situation closely and ready to react if an exit becomes more likely.

Mainoo rumours shouldn’t be allowed to crop up

There are genuine concerns about Mainoo’s situation right now but the reports surrounding a potential exit mainly seem like a good headline at the moment.

United are limited in midfield as things stand and sanctioning any deal this late in the window without a quality replacement lined up makes little sense.

Yet, the idea that these rumours can even crop up at the moment makes it clear that things aren’t right. Mainoo cannot simply be a backup to Fernandes and Amorim needs to learn how to fit him into his plans.

All you need to do is look at the calibre of club reportedly interested in him. He is an elite talent and there’s no reason why he can’t make a significant impact at his boyhood club.
