It has been rumoured that United are eager to bring a former player back home to Old Trafford, with his time away from the club showing just what he’s made of.
Scott McTominay left Manchester United in the summer of 2024, joining Italian side Napoli in a £25million deal, with the move seeming the perfect decision for the 29-year-old to have made.
The midfielder ended his 22-year-long association with the Red Devils, and immediately found his feet in the Serie A, his debut season was one to remember.
The Scottish international not only won the league with Napoli but also was awarded the Serie A Player of the Year, as well as securing himself a Ballon d’Or nomination, finishing 18th in the rankings.
Due to McTominay’s success, CaughtOffside have revealed that the club are interested in the Scot making his return to the Premier League, with his newfound Italian flair sparking the interest of head coach, Ruben Amorim.
Are Napoli willing to sell?
Since playing under Antonio Conte, McTominay has found himself a role that perfectly caters to all his strengths, developing as a player massively.
Now free from the pressures that come alongside playing in the top tier of English football, McTominay has been able to play more freely, showing his dominance within the box.
The midfielder proved himself vital in Napoli’s league-winning campaign, scoring 12 goals in the Serie A, remaining a reliable player in high-pressure moments.
The Serie A’s slower pace and lower-pressure environment have given McTominay the place to flourish, with his understanding of the game as a whole improving dramatically, becoming both a better goalscorer and far more physical player in just a short time at the club.
This has led Napoil’s stance on McTominay to be predictable, the club wanting to keep him in Italy to ensure they continue to replicate last season’s success. However, the club must remain realistic and consider both the future as well as the financial gain they would receive from selling a player like McTominay.
It is reported that Napoli would only begin to consider making negotiations at prices around £60 million, due to the importance he has in Conte’s system; however, questions are beginning to arise whether one special offer could make the Italian side change their minds.
Is McTominay returning to England?
It is reported that United immensely regretted letting go of McTominay. It is said that the club are considering putting in the work to see the academy graduate make his return home.
United are not the only ones who have been impressed by McTominay since his move.
Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle are all said to be monitoring his progress, with all three of the clubs admiring his physicality and wanting them a part of their squad rotation.
This has led to estimations regarding the Scott’s potential to come back to England being made. It is said there is now a 70% of a summer transfer for McTominay, and United hopefully will be the ones to close this deal.
