Rúben Amorim has issued an update on Noussair Mazraoui’s injury condition ahead of the club’s Premier League tie against Ipswich Town.

Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United are still searching for their first Premier League win of the month and will look to put an end to that run when they host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

United’s last league outing resulted in a 2-2 draw at Everton, with second-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte salvaging a point after another sluggish start.

Slow beginnings have been a recurring problem, with Amorim’s side frequently forced to recover from early setbacks.

Defensive concerns also remain, with just two clean sheets across all competitions this season. However, against an Ipswich side struggling in the relegation zone, United will see this as an opportunity to take control and return to winning ways.

Mazraoui injury scare vs Everton

Against Everton, some were surprised when Rúben Amorim decided to withdraw Noussair Mazraoui in the 70th minute, bringing on Leny Yoro and reshuffling his centre-backs despite Manchester United pushing for a winning goal.

Mazraoui had started on the right side of the back three, with Harry Maguire in the centre and Matthijs de Ligt on the left.

Fresh reports then indicated that the club were “sweating” over a potential knee injury for the Morocco international.

Manchester United then conducted medical tests on Mazraoui on Monday afternoon, although Amorim issued no direct update during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Amorim’s update on Mazraoui

However, speaking to club media on Tuesday ahead of his press conference, the head coach offered a more expansive update on the fitness of his squad.

Although he did not mention Mazraoui by name, the 40-year-old confirmed that although no players are expected to return, no further players are unavailable through injury, pointing to the notion that Mazraoui has not sustained any significant issue.

“No, for now no,” Amorim explained when asked if fans can expect any returns. “Of course we want to have more players and to have important players to return to our team but the good news this week we didn’t lost anyone so let’s go to the game.”

Even if Mazraoui is fit, Amorim may still choose to drop him to the bench and start Leny Yoro as the left centre-back to deal better with Ipswich’s fast front line, which Amorim has a great appreciation for.

“I think one of the things that is really impressive in the team is that the confidence that they play,” Amorim said of Ipswich.

“Even in the difficult situation, you see that there is like an idea. I really like the coach. He’s really intelligent and really smart, and you understand what he wants to do.

“And then, they have some players with real quality, especially in transitions. You have to be careful with that. They play really well. They try to have possession, so it’s going to be a tough game.

“In the Premier League, it doesn’t matter. The position is always tough, so we are ready for a tough game.”
