Rúben Amorim issues immediate Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount injury update after Leeds draw

Rúben Amorim has hinted at the possibility of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount’s return following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Leeds

Manchester United and Leeds played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon, with Brenden Aaronson and Matheus Cunha each finding the net.

The match began at a frantic pace, as United matched Leeds’ aggression and competed well in the early stages. Chances for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cunha followed, but neither side was able to capitalise during a tightly contested first half.

Leeds eventually broke the deadlock after the restart through Aaronson, though United hit back almost immediately. Cunha’s strike brought Rúben Amorim’s side level with 25 minutes left to play.

Despite late pressure from both teams in search of a decisive goal, neither could find the required cutting edge, and the points were shared at full time.

Amorim issues Fernandes and Mount hints vs Burnley

Following the 1-1 draw against Leeds on Sunday afternoon, Amorim will be eyeing the side’s Wednesday night clash against Burnley away from home.

The tie at Turf Moor is a perfect chance for Amorim’s side to get back to winning ways and secure their first victory of the new year.

Speaking with TNT Sports after the game, Amorim hinted that Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, two of United’s most creative players, could be in contention to feature after both were hit with injuries last month.

When asked about the January transfer window, Amorim stated that the side will get better once key players return, stating that the pair could be back in action soon.

“I expect to have some minutes of maybe Bruno [Fernandes] and Mason Mount, maybe,” he told TNT Sports. “So, we’ll see. We have more too with the quality that we have. There are players ready to help us.”

Amorim finds positives during Leeds draw

Despite the Leeds game being the Reds’ second 1-1 draw in a row, Amorim was quick to explain that he thought United’s control, creativity, and set pieces were much better.

“I think we played well. I think we had more control in this game than we showed against Wolves,” he said. That is important because it shows how you can prepare for this week with the mistakes that we learned from the last game.

“We controlled Leeds, on the set pieces, the second balls, they are really quick up front. We controlled it well. We had our opportunities to win the game.

“We are losing games on the details – the Leeds goal, we are controlling the game and then one kick of the ball in transition, but we managed to get back into the game. Last year it would be completely different.

“This year we are more in control of the games than we were last year, but we are frustrated not to win.”
