Ruben Amorim is backing Man Utd star despite criticism, he’s “determined” to stay at Old Trafford

Ruben Amorim is backing one Manchester United star, who is determined to stay at the club despite receiving criticism.
Manchester United have faced severe difficulties in attack this season, with goals proving hard to come by throughout the campaign.
Ruben Amorim will be encouraged by his side scoring seven times in their last two matches, and even more relieved to see Rasmus Højlund finally break his goal drought.
The Danish striker had come under heavy criticism after enduring a goalless run of over 20 games. Some matches saw him struggle to get opportunities, while in others, he failed to convert clear chances.
The 22-year-old’s form this season has raised significant concerns after many expected him to kick on after a positive debut campaign at Old Trafford.
Højlund determined to stay at United
There have been some rumours in recent weeks that the club are considering the sale of Højlund when the summer transfer window opens.
According to a new report from GiveMeSport, the Danish striker is “determined” to prove his worth to Amorim and the decision-makers at Old Trafford before the end of the season.
It was explained that the 22-year-old striker has shown a “notable change” in his focus and determination on the training pitch at Carrington in recent weeks.
Højlund stated himself that he’s been working hard on the technical and mental side of his game to try and turn around his form.
“I’ve been working very hard to get to this point. I’ve been working a lot away from the scenes, both mentally and also on the pitch,” he said on Sunday.
“I know I’m not the finished article or what you say over here, but I just want to keep going. I’m sure I’ll get even better and score even more goals if I just focus on that.”
Amorim backing Højlund despite struggles
Amorim has already shown public support to Højlund despite his struggles. The United boss has regularly claimed that his goalscoring problems have also been down to the team as a whole.
In fact, last week the United boss explained that he showed the squad footage of Højlund’s movement creating the opportunity for Joshua Zirkzee to score against Real Sociedad – showcasing his impact on the pitch without scoring goals.
“I think it’s more a team problem than a Rasmus problem,” he told reporters earlier this season when explaining the issues.
“You can see it, it’s not just from now, it’s from the past. So we have clearly a lack of goals and a lack of threat.
“All the players have moments in this season. I think when we started this journey together, Rasmus was the player that was always scoring.”
The United boss will be hoping that his trust in the striker will be repaid once club football returns after the international break.
