Against Everton, there are three changes Rúben Amorim must make to his starting team as he prepares his side to face Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United are still searching for their first Premier League win of the month and will look to change that when they host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
United’s last league match ended in a 2-2 draw at Everton, with second-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte rescuing a point after another slow start.
A lack of urgency in the early stages has been a recurring issue, often leaving United chasing games after falling behind.
Defensive struggles have also been a concern, with just two clean sheets across all competitions this season. However, against an Ipswich side battling relegation, Amorim will be hoping for a stronger start and a much-needed victory.
However, amid United’s lacklustre performance against Everton, there are three changes that Amorim must look to make as he selects his team to face Ipswich.
#1 – Yoro must start
Leny Yoro missed the game against Tottenham two weeks ago through illness and was only fit enough to make the bench against Everton, but he must start on Wednesday evening.
With Noussair Mazraoui potentially injured, Yoro can join the back line as a left centre-back, meaning Matthijs de Ligt can move to his more comfortable right hand side and Harry Maguire can continue in the middle.
Yoro was great when he came on against Everton for the final 20 minutes, and assuming his fitness is back up to speed after illness, he should start.
#2 – Fernandes drops deeper
Fernandes completely changed the game against Everton when he dropped into a deeper role for the final 30 minutes, and this must continue against Ipswich.
Amorim brought on Alejandro Garnacho to fill the gap as Casemiro, who played alongside Ugarte but failed to have much of an impact, departed the field, and the tie flipped on it’s head from there.
Amorim has previously explained he feels Fernandes plays his best football when he’s in the middle of the pitch. He must vow to continue the Portuguese international alongside Ugarte against Ipswich to allow United more control at Old Trafford.
#3 – Højlund must be dropped
Højlund was labelled as “anonymous” during his 70 minutes on the pitch at Goodison Park on the weekend, and having not scored for his last 16 appearances in a row, he has done little to justify his continued starts.
With Joshua Zirkzee growing in confidence and reports claiming that those at Carrington are growing frustrated with the striker, Amorim should look to replace the Danish international up front against Ipswich.
Although Zirkzee has been playing well in the last few weeks as a right-sided attacking midfielder, there is hope that his growing confidence may translate to playing as a striker, with United struggling for goals.
