Rúben Amorim has sent a stark warning to two Manchester United players as Patrick Dorgu lines up for a potential Manchester United debut against Leicester City.

Manchester United return to FA Cup action in the fourth round as they host Leicester City at Old Trafford.

The match marks the return of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who briefly managed United for four games following Erik ten Hag’s departure before Rúben Amorim took charge. After leaving Old Trafford, the Dutchman was appointed as Leicester City’s manager.

United’s last FA Cup fixture was a dramatic contest away to Arsenal. Bruno Fernandes put the Reds ahead, but Diogo Dalot’s red card allowed the hosts to equalise, forcing extra time. After 120 minutes of hard-fought football, United emerged victorious on penalties.

Amorim’s side won five of their seven matches in January but are looking to respond after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. The Leicester clash presents the ideal opportunity to get back on track.

Amorim’s warning to United duo

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, Amorim was asked how he feels about only having four senior attacking players going into the second half of the season.

United only have Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee as striker options, while Amad and Alejandro Garnacho both play in the attacking midfield areas.

However, Amorim explained that he also sees winter recruit Patrick Dorgu as another weapon he can add to the attack, but also warned his striker duo that they must start scoring their chances.

“We have to find players to play in the different positions,” Amorim said. “We can say in the way we play with Dorgu, we have one more winger to play in both sides.

“Of course, it’s going to take time so it’s not going to solve all the problems. We have to improve. We create chances, we don’t score. We have many shots inside the box and we catch [hit] always one player, so these small things, I think we can improve.

“I think Amad can score more, Bruno can score more, even Kobbie Mainoo can score more, playing in that position a little bit further up the pitch. So, we have to improve as a team, we have a little bit more time. Let’s see in the end of the season.”

Dorgu’s role for his United debut

Amorim was asked if new signings Dorgu and Ayden Heaven will be involved against Leicester City, to which he replied: “We’ll see. You guys have to wait for tomorrow! But they are ready to play and they are two more solutions to help us in this moment.”

Amorim’s words show that once Dorgu makes his debut for United, he will be expected to operate as a left wing-back to aids the attacking line, essentially acting as a winger for the club.

While the 40-year-old was coy about if the Denmark international would be involved against Leicester, the lack of options otherwise in the current squad points towards this being an almost certainty.

Should this be the case, fans will no doubt want to see the new signing on the Old Trafford turf, and he may well get his first start for the club.
