Ruben Amorim has hinted at who will be starting as Manchester United’s striker in their final pre-season clash in the United States against Everton.
Manchester United take on Everton in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Bryan Mbeumo is making his first appearance for the club.
United are gearing up for their penultimate pre-season fixture of 2025, as they wrap up their involvement in the Premier League Summer Series with a match against Everton.
Following a goalless draw with Leeds in Sweden two weeks ago, United traveled to the United States to participate in the Summer Series tournament.
They began their U.S. campaign with a 2-1 win over West Ham in New Jersey, followed by an emphatic 4-1 victory against Bournemouth in Chicago.
Now, they face Everton in Atalanta for their last game of the tour, before returning to Manchester to take on Fiorentina at Old Trafford, just one week ahead of their 2025/26 Premier League opener at home to Arsenal.
Amorim hints at United striker vs Everton
United’s lineup for their final clash in the States includes Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo as the front three, with the Cameroon international making his first appearance.
Rasmus Højlund has been taken out of the side after scoring twice against Bournemouth, and there is no recognised striker in Amorim’s team.
However, it has been previously explained that both Mbeumo and Cunha can operate in that central role for the Reds, and this is clearly the first test of that on the pitch.
Amorim has suggested that one of those two will be starting through the middle against the Toffees, with Mbeumo the most likely after being spotted training as the central striker during the warm-up.
“It’s a good game to see different players in different positions. It’s a good game to prepare for the future,” the United boss said.
Should Mbeumo start centrally, then it is likely Cunha will play from the left alongside Dalot, while Bruno Fernandes will start on the right flank.
Different striker options are useful
While absolutely everyone agrees that United need a new striker at the club, it would also be extremely useful if there were different options.
There are even more options for Amorim to consider if the two new signings can prove their ability to play in that position.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the set-up looks for United, and how much rotation there will be within that frontline.
Cunha and Mbeumo are both comfortable in those central areas, while Fernandes has also shown that he can play there for the club beforehand.
