Ruben Amorim now has a new deadline for the Bryan Mbeumo deal following on from the latest confirmation from Manchester United.
Manchester United are trying to improve the squad at Ruben Amorim’s disposal this summer ahead of the crucial 2025/26 campaign.
Last term made it extremely clear that offensive improvements were needed and that is something that the club are trying to address.
Matheus Cunha was signed at the beginning of the transfer window and he will immediately slot into the team on the left side of the attack.
The club then immediately moved onto trying to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and submitted a bid for the player within the first week of the window, which was ultimately rejected.
Since then, three weeks have passed and there is still no agreement between the two Premier League clubs but United remain confident of an eventual deal.
Amorim has set new Mbeumo deadline
The transfer window opened earlier than usual this summer and so it wasn’t crucial for Mbeumo to be through the door immediately. United have had time to try and negotiate a better deal.
But it has now been officially confirmed by the club that pre-season training will begin on the week commencing 7 July, which is two weeks from now.
Amorim has already made it clear that he wants his main signings through the door for the start of pre-season and he will be desperate to have Mbeumo done by that point.
As things stand, Cunha would be the only major first-team signing in that first session at Carrington, which would be hugely disappointing for the Portuguese boss.
There has also been no player sales yet, with Victor Lindelöf, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans the only confirmed departures so far.
Complaints will come if United don’t secure Mbeumo soon
Two weeks is still plenty of time and United also will not leave for their tour of the United States until mid-July, which gives more time for new signings to arrive before the actual preparation begins.
But the optics do not look great if Amorim walks into the building and essentially welcomes back the exact same players who contributed to the worst season in recent memory.
It is not just the need to see players like Mbeumo but to also witness some sales of these unwanted stars. There’s clearly still a lot of work to be done.
In an ideal world, you would have at least four signings ready for the start of pre-season. United fans would be pleased with two, but there will be some complaints if it is still just Cunha in two weeks time.
