Rúben Amorim has immediate “world class” selection problem vs Everton as star returns to training

With Manchester United returning to Premier League action on Monday, Ruben Amorim has been faced with a selection headache due to the return of a ‘world-class’ star.

A difficult start to the campaign has recently taken a turn for the better for Manchester United, who are currently enjoying a five-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League.

This is Ruben Amorim’s longest unbeaten run since taking over at Old Trafford in late 2024, and he will be hoping to extend it when his side takes on Everton on Monday night.

Besides a few faces, the Red Devils have been fully fit for the majority of the season so far, and they will be hopeful that one of their star players can return to action in the near future.

With the impending return of Lisandro Martinez, Amorim now faces a selection headache between the Argentine and one ‘world-class’ defender.

Amorim’s selection headache

Soon enough, United fans will be treated to seeing Martinez return to action, although this could result in one of Amorim’s favourite players missing out on the XI.

As per BBC Sport, via United In Focus, Amorim is a huge fan of Luke Shaw, and even deems to English defender as ‘world-class’.

“Luke Shaw is a world-class player,” Amorim said in July. “That is my feeling. You can feel it in the small things; when he touches the ball, the ability to play one against one.

“England had two finals. He had issues during the season, but in the final, he is always there. That means something.”

Good problems for Amorim

This selection headache will make a nice change for Amorim, who hasn’t been used to such pleasant dilemmas during his time as the United manager.

During Amorim’s first season in Manchester, he often had to deal with an injury crisis that left him turning to United’s academy talents to fill in for the first-team regulars.

Although the Reds picked up a few injury concerns during their 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, they will be hoping to make the most of their fit squad for their upcoming run of fixtures.

The long-awaited return of Martinez seems to be nearing closer as the weeks pass, but the Everton game may be too soon for him to re-enter the frame.
