Ruben Amorim has reportedly held ‘positive talks’ with one Manchester United star who is desperate to break into his preferred starting XI next season.
Manchester United struggled last season under new boss Ruben Amorim and several players were unable to find form in his new system.
Some of those are simply not good enough to be part of the long-term future at Old Trafford but others can easily turn things around and improve.
Kobbie Mainoo has found life difficult under the Portuguese head coach, partly due to the tactical changes but his struggles have also been a cause of injury issues.
The 20-year-old was outstanding during his breakthrough campaign in 2023/24 and many fans are hoping that he can return to those levels next term.
Amorim has held positive talks with Mainoo
Some fans have doubted Mainoo’s suitability to Amorim’s system but it has been reported that the United boss has ‘held positive talks’ with the midfielder this summer.
That is according to GiveMeSport, who claim that Mainoo is motivated to break back into the preferred starting XI at Old Trafford next season.
Whilst he was used in the no.10 position towards the end of the last campaign, Mainoo wants to prove to Amorim that he should be part of his first-choice central midfielder pairing.
There have been rumours surrounding a potential exit for the player this summer but the aforementioned report added that United have no interest in selling him this summer and he continues to be in Amorim’s plans.
Mainoo is working hard to break into United team
There is absolutely no reason why a fully fit and firing Mainoo isn’t starting consistently for United next season, and that is clearly his aim heading towards pre-season.
Bruno Fernandes’ most likely partner in the middle is Casemiro, but there is a solid chance that Mainoo can convince Amorim that he is the right man for the job.
There had been some complaints within the fanbase that the youngster had put on too much muscle last term, causing him trouble when trying to get around the pitch in the engine room.

But that also looked to be partly due to injury, and now over the summer in posts uploaded to social media, Mainoo is looking in tremendous shape ahead of the new campaign.
He has been on holiday with Leny Yoro, with the pair working hard in the gym together, and Mainoo will be hoping to join the Frenchman in Amorim’s starting team next season.
