Ruben Amorim has seemingly ‘already made’ his decision on whether to start Senne Lammens for Manchester United in their next game against Manchester City.
Despite bolstering their attack with the additions of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško, Manchester United continue to struggle defensively.
Goalkeepers Altay Bayındır and André Onana have both been at fault for costly errors, prompting the club to seek a more reliable presence in goal.
United eventually secured a deal with Royal Antwerp for Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens, agreeing to pay an initial £18 million for the 23-year-old, who was chosen ahead of Aston Villa’s Emi Martínez.
Lammens underwent his medical at Carrington, signed a long-term contract, and was officially unveiled as a United player on Monday evening, just as the transfer window closed.
Amorim has ‘already made’ his decision on starting Lammens vs City
Lammens will spend two weeks at Carrington now over the international break, which gives him a chance to work under Ruben Amorim and with many of his new teammates.
United face Manchester City when they return to action later this month and there are question marks over whether Lammens will be chosen to start in that game.
According to fresh reports from GiveMeSport, Lammens is not expected to immediately become first-choice option at Old Trafford even though he is viewed as a long-term option who can develop under Amorim’s coaching staff.
That suggests that Amorim has already made his mind up that Lammens will not start that clash, and could instead make his debut in a more favourable environment in the weeks afterwards.
Bayındır likely to start against City
This could end up being good news for Altay Bayındır, who has started the opening three Premier League fixtures of the season.
Bayındır being chosen over Onana for the game against Burnley suggests that he’s ahead of the Cameroonian in the pecking order right now and if Lammens is not going to be thrown in against City, he is likely going to start once again.
The Turkish international has actually shown surprisingly impressive distribution in these first few games and that is likely why he’ll remain in the team.
But even though he can provide some “incredible” moments between the sticks, Bayındır will have to improve how he commands his area otherwise Lammens will likely come into the team sooner than expected.
