Rúben Amorim has been handed an update on the fitness of Lisandro Martínez amid a triple Manchester United injury boost.
Manchester United are gearing up for their penultimate pre-season match of 2025, with Rúben Amorim’s attention now on their final Premier League Summer Series clash against Everton.
Following a goalless draw with Leeds United in Sweden two weeks ago, United travelled to the United States to take part in the Premier League’s flagship pre-season tournament.
They kicked off their American tour with a 2-1 victory over West Ham in New Jersey, before comfortably dispatching Bournemouth 4-1 in Chicago.
Their final match of the Summer Series comes against Everton in Atalanta, after which they’ll return to Manchester to face Fiorentina at Old Trafford, just one week before the 2025/26 season begins with a home game against Arsenal.
United handed Martínez injury update
With much of United’s positive play across pre-season coming from interplay between United’s technical players, such as Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, and Amad, Lisandro Martínez has been a miss.
The left-footed centre-back has fantastic on-the-ball abilities, but has been injured since late February after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.
However, after being spotted doing gym work and joining in with the side on the club’s pre-season tour, MailSport have reported that he has now stepped up his recovery, having done some running on grass and ball work on his own.
Although Martínez is not yet ready to rejoin the main group, his continued recovery work puts him in good standing to be available again for the early months of the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
Zirkzee and Onana to return soon
Many had been excited at the thought of seeing Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee play alongside new signings Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. However, the 23-year-old suffered a minor issue during the opening week of pre-season training.
However, he has since confirmed that it is not a problem expected to cause any significant damage and that he is focusing on returning soon.
“I’ve got a small injury, but it shouldn’t take too long to recover now,” Zirkzee explained this week. “I’ve got great physios working with me every day.
“It’s not a serious problem. It’s pre-season so unlike last season where I wanted to push myself to be back for the final, obviously now I just want to be there for the start of the season.”
Meanwhile, MailSport’s update also reported that André Onana is ahead of schedule and could return to action for United’s pre-season fixture against Fiorentina at Old Trafford next week. Both he and Zirkzee, alongside Martínez, have returned to light training.
Onana suffered a tear in his left hamstring on the second day of United’s pre-season training, but is in line to return to competitive action by the time the club face Arsenal on 17 August during the opening weekend of the league season.
