The “best thing” about Rúben Amorim speaks volumes about his Manchester United team, says Gary Neville

Gary Neville has issued a damning verdict about Manchester United while speaking about what the “best thing” is about Rúben Amorim at the club.
Manchester United slumped to another defeat as James Maddison’s first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs dominated possession early on, but United carved out the first real chances, with Rasmus Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Diogo Dalot all testing the hosts inside the opening ten minutes. However, Tottenham struck soon after, as Maddison capitalised on a rebound to fire his side ahead.
United continued to create opportunities but lacked precision in front of goal, heading into the break trailing by one. They showed more urgency in the second half, but despite their attacking intent, they failed to find a breakthrough.
With 20 minutes to play, Spurs regained their foothold, yet United kept pushing. Late chances fell to Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee, but costly errors in key moments meant Rúben Amorim’s men left North London with nothing to show for their efforts.
Neville’s damning verdict of United
Speaking after the game, former United captain Gary Neville has explained he feels the only good thing about Amorim’s tenure at United so far has been his press conferences, which speaks volumes about how bleak the club look on the pitch.
“The best thing under Rúben Amorim so far has been his press conferences, the way he communicates his vision and his idea, and that he wants to succeed at Man United,” Neville explained to Sky Sports.
“I don’t think there’s anything on the pitch that I’ve seen so far, either in results or performances, that tell me that we’re watching a really good team. We’re not. It’s a really poor team, this United team. But even if it’s a poor team, there are ways in which to make even a poor team look better. Are they there?
“He has died in a ditch in respect of when he said very early on, ‘I’m not going to change my idea’, so now he can’t.

“And that’s, I suppose, an issue in some ways, because I do think there were probably, with those 11 players they had out on the pitch, they had a better way of probably getting them into a system which would have meant they’d have felt more comfortable.
“But he can’t change that now because of what he said previously. He’s really sort of stuck his flag in the ground and that’s the way in which he’s going to go down. But the performance levels are nowhere near good enough and he’ll know that.
“He had a very good team, by the way, Sporting Lisbon. They’re a fantastic team, so he knows what good looks like. He knows where he wants to take Manchester United to. The problem is, at this moment in time, it’s just not happening at all.”
