Rúben Amorim has issued three hints toward his Manchester United line up as they face Fulham in the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United shift their attention back to the FA Cup as they prepare to face Fulham at Old Trafford in the fifth round on Sunday afternoon.

United’s journey in the competition has seen them edge past Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at the Emirates, before claiming a 2-1 victory over Leicester City thanks to Harry Maguire’s stoppage-time winner.

Rúben Amorim’s side come into this clash following a 3-2 Premier League win over Ipswich Town, though another shaky defensive display did little to silence their critics.

With the team languishing in 14th place, the FA Cup offers their most realistic path to Europa League qualification—unless they can go all the way in Europe and secure a Champions League spot.

Amorim’s two XI hints

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Amorim had a lot to say about Alejandro Garnacho, and he confirmed that despite the winger’s behaviour following his early substitution and knock against Ipswich, he will hopefully be available to play.

However, Amorim did admit that Garnacho still faces a late fitness test – but he words hint that should the 20-year-old be fit to play, he may start.

“He has a knock, I expect him to be ready but we will see, I have to wait until tomorrow,” Amorim said.

The head coach was also quick to jump to the defence of André Onana following criticism for Ipswich’s goals, and after he explained that Altay Bayındır and other injured players are not likely to return, he says he has full “support” for the player.

“He did some great saves that save our team and sometimes have some problems – but that is normal,” Amorim stated. “I think if you look at our team you can find a lot of players with that issue.

“People talk about the second goal from Ipswich… he is waiting for the touch of Delap. That can happen. We just have to support André. We need to forget about the past and prepare for the future.”

With no other senior goalkeepers available, it’s almost certain that Onana will start against Fulham.

Amorim on replacing Dorgu

Finally, the 40-year-old was asked how he plans on replacing Dorgu, who is serving a three-match suspension, to which he replied, “It is like business as usual.

“Of course, you don’t want him sent-off because it is hard to play with ten men and we lose him for three games. Everything at United is a big issue.

“I don’t need to say anything to him. He is frustrated and sad, but he is working [towards] the next games. He is going to be a very important player for us.”

With Amorim stating that Dorgu’s ban does not alter plans too much, this points to the notion that Noussair Mazraoui may return to the XI.
