Ruben Amorim finally confirms “quality” Manchester United position change that fans were begging for

Ruben Amorim has been full of praise for Manchester United’s new signing Patrick Dorgu ahead of their next Premier League clash this week.
Patrick Dorgu, 20, signed for Manchester United in the January transfer window as an immediate reinforcement at wingback under Ruben Amorim.
Before his arrival this season, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Tyrell Malacia were all been deployed in the wingback role, which only highlighted the need for an upgrade.
Known for his attacking mindset and ability to create danger going forward, Dorgu has made a promising start to his career at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old has been one of United’s best players in all three of his appearances so far although it was a surprise to see him operating at right wingback on his debut.
Amorim explained after the game that Dorgu can play on both flanks and he has previously stated how he likes ‘wrong-footed’ wingbacks–for example, a left-footer on the right side.
Amorim confirms Dorgu will continue on left side
Dorgu’s last two appearances have been on the left side but fans have been unsure about whether Amorim will return him to the other side in the coming games – something many have been vocal against due to the troubles United face on the left without him.
However, the United boss has clarified that Dorgu is playing “more free” on the left side and suggested that he will remain in that position despite having the capabilities to play on both flanks.
Amorim also praised Dorgu for his positive start to life at United despite the larger issues surrounding the club on and off the pitch.
“I think the one important thing is that he’s really excited to be here and you can feel it every day,” Amorim told club media this week. “So it’s something that I’m really happy with, because he understood how lucky he is to play for a club like ours.
“He’s playing really well in the context that it is really hard, but he’s showing a lot of things that we thought [about] when we bring a player like him in – a young player.
“He has the pace, he has the quality, he can play both sides, but he’s playing on the left. I think he’s feeling a little bit more free. He’s going to be a very good player for us now and in the future.”
Dorgu needs to build relationship with United teammates
Dorgu has been one of the few positives for United in recent games but one thing has become clear in his opening performances.

The wingback has had a decent impact so far but could be much more influential for Amorim’s side if he is able to build a relationship with the player in front of him.
Against Spurs, it was evident how Dorgu and Alejandro Garnacho were not on the same wavelength, with the Argentine continuously ignoring his overlapping runs.
Whether it be with Garnacho or another player operating in the left-attacking midfield role, Dorgu’s attacking influence could become much greater if he can strike a relationship in the coming weeks and months.
