Ruben Amorim has made three changes to his Manchester United lineup to face Southampton at Old Trafford this evening.

Manchester United turn their attention back to the Premier League as they host Southampton at Old Trafford in a must-win game.

Ruben Amorim’s team has shown recent signs of recovery with strong performances against Liverpool and Arsenal after a poor run of form.

While the results were positive, it was the players’ determination and performance that stood out—qualities they must sustain in games against the likes of Southampton.

Amorim has introduced Leny Yoro to the team for this clash, with the 19-year-old starting only his third Premier League fixture for the club after signing in the summer.

Amorim praises “top talent” Yoro ahead of Southampton clash

Yoro has replaced Harry Maguire, who played over 100 minutes against Arsenal despite being ill before the game.

United fans will be excited to see the teenager in action and Amorim believes that he is more than ready for the test against a speedy Saints frontline.

The head coach believes that the pace of “top talent” Yoro will help United in a game where they are most likely going to need to sniff out counter-attacks from the visitors.

“Harry [Maguire] is tired and he had a tough week,” Amorim explained when speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the game.

“I think Southampton will play without a striker and with more speed in front. Leny [Yoro] is a quick player and he is a top talent. He is ready to cope with the demands of the game.”

Amorim added when speaking to club media: “Leny is perfect for this game and he is the future of this club.”

Yoro is perfect for Amorim’s system

United fans have only seen glimpses of it so far, but Yoro’s abilities are almost perfect for the role he’s supposed to play in Amorim’s system.

We have seen the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martínez get exposed in those wider channels on a few occasions but those are positions which the Frenchman thrives in.

He has super athleticism and almost reminds you of former Red Aaron Wan-Bissaka with how he slide tackles opponents – as shown by a world-class tackle against Manchester City.

There is still a lot of growth for Yoro to do and getting more and more minutes in the team is the best way for him to do that.
