Ruben Amorim has explained two problems with Marcus Rashford that can be solved in the next Manchester United game against Bodø/Glimt.

Manchester United drew 1-1 against Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge on Sunday evening.

It was a game where some positives were shown, but the major takeaway from the performance was how much work Amorim has to do.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for United within the first two minutes of the game but failed to make any significant impact afterwards.

The 27-year-old started as the lone no.9 and struggled to keep the ball or win it in advanced positions.

Amorim addressed two main problems with playing Rashford as the lone striker in a post-match interview with DAZN, as per Mais Futebol.

“The main thing is that they tried. We lost some balls, we played with Rashford up front and we lost some physicality, some ability to hold the ball,” he explained.

“We had two training sessions and it’s such a big change. We have to think about the next game and the Europa League.”

This has seemed to be an issue with Rashford whenever he has played upfront. His back to goal play is not great and he doesn’t excel in bringing others into play in that position.

United’s next clash comes in the Europa League against Bodø/Glimt on Thursday evening and there will likely be changes to the team.

Rasmus Højlund or Joshua Zirkzee are likely to come into the side up front to help with the issues Amorim mentioned about Rashford.

Then, the Portuguese boss coach could even test the English forward in one of the roles behind the main attacker, which many thought would be his best position in the new system.

No matter what, Amorim will definitely be looking to test out some of his other players and continue to assess who fits best in his desired setup.
