Ruben Amorim has explained a ‘really important’ moment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe that has helped Manchester United in their positive run of form.
Manchester United are enjoying a strong spell of form, currently unbeaten in five matches, a run that features victories over Liverpool, Sunderland, and Brighton.
The club’s summer signings in attack are already making a clear impact, with Bryan Mbeumo emerging as the most impressive of the new arrivals.
It did feel like Ruben Amorim was under serious pressure a couple of months ago, with reports suggesting that he could be sacked.
But those rumours have been squashed by United’s leadership and recent results, and Amorim will want to continue in a positive fashion after the international break.
Amorim reveals ‘important’ Ratcliffe moment that helped United
Amorim received a major vote of confidence from United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe earlier this season, where the British billionaire stated that Amorim deserves a prolonged period to change things.
That is something that the Portuguese boss appreciated and he also believes that it was ‘really important’ for the team to turn things around.
In an interview with Stan Sport, Amorim explained: “If you remember when Jim gave that interview, that settled down a lot of the noise around the club, it changed completely. So that was really important for the team and it’s really important for me.
“So those words had a huge impact, not on the way I do things, but the way people see what we are doing. So it was massive for us.”
Amorim has the right support
Over the last few months, we have heard from Ratcliffe as well as Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada. All three of them are supportive of Amorim.
Amorim is the first United manager in a while who has had that kind of public support from the board, and he also has close relationships with those figures behind-the-scenes.
Under the previous regimes, it did sometimes feel like the manager was on their own to deal with the problems at Old Trafford. There was never any genuine relationship with the higher-ups.
Whether or not Amorim turns out to be a complete success at United, the fact that he is not working alone and has support from those above him is definitely a step in the right direction.
