Rúben Amorim explains new transfer ‘rule’ Manchester United are using in Benjamin Šeško negotiations

Rúben Amorim has explained a new transfer rule that Manchester United will be using in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško.

Manchester United have made signing a new centre-forward their top priority as Rúben Amorim continues to build his attack ahead of the new campaign.

Bruno Fernandes was United’s leading scorer last season with 19 goals, while only three other players managed to reach double figures across all competitions.

To address their lack of firepower, the club have already spent £127.5 million on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who scored 15 and 20 Premier League goals respectively last season.

Both wingers are now part of the squad and training in the United States. With the wide positions reinforced, Amorim has shifted his focus to securing a striker, with Benjamin Šeško widely reported as the club’s preferred option to lead the line.

United’s new rule in Šeško negotiations

Šeško would become United’s fourth summer signing after Cunha, Mbeumo, and Diego Leon, with United in dire need of goals.

Speaking to club media, Amorim has explained a new “rule” that is being implemented when the club selects its transfer targets, and no doubt one that is being applied in negotiations with Šeško and his team.

Amorim was asked about the signings of Mbeumo and Cunha and questioned on how vital their character was about the decision to sign the players. The head coach responded by explaining that character was now a central part of their transfer negotiations.

“It’s a key point in our way to do things now,” Amorim said. “It’s not just how they play. It’s really important how they play, of course, because that is the job.

“But the character is really important. And we took a lot of time to know the players, to talk with everybody, before we bring some players to our group. And that is going to be like a rule, and it’s going to be massive in our decision when we bring a player.”

Amorim’s cultural revolution continues

Amorim has been keen to explain from the very first minute he arrived that players will only join United or continue at the club if they have completely bought into the side’s project.

Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and others have all been either transfer listed or already exited after Amorim decided he felt said players were not invested in his Old Trafford rebuild.

Cunha and Mbeumo have both spoken at length about their love for United, and the club will no doubt hold the same conversations with Šeško and his representatives as they continue to pursue the player.

While Cunha and Mbeumo both signalled their intent to sign for United very early on in their transfer negotiations, Šeško has been more hesitant due to interest from Newcastle. Still, it has been widely claimed that his preference would be tos ign for United.

While Amorim’s club are yet to bid for the Slovenian, it is thought that, should the 22-year-old indicate he wants to become United’s next signing, they will engage in talks with RB Leipzig to hash out a transfer.
