Ruben Amorim has explained a key moment which he was upset with during Manchester United’s win over Chelsea on the weekend.
Manchester United came out strong, showing composure and belief despite a week of heavy criticism for underwhelming performances.
Ruben Amorim’s side set the tempo early, and Chelsea were dealt a major blow inside five minutes when goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was sent off for bringing down Bryan Mbeumo on the edge of the area.
United quickly took advantage, with Bruno Fernandes opening the scoring after a well-timed run, before Casemiro added a second from close range in a crowded box.
Just as United seemed in control, Casemiro was shown a second yellow card late in the first half, leaving both sides with 10 men.
The second half produced few clear chances, but Chelsea pulled one back in the 80th minute through a Trevoh Chalobah header. Despite the late setback, Amorim’s men held their ground to clinch all three points.
Amorim explains key moment he was upset with vs Chelsea
United could have made this game much easier than it was if Casemiro did not even up the game with his red card late in the first-half.
But it was another moment just beforehand which seemed to upset Amorim more, with the United boss speaking about it after the game.
With the Reds 2-0 up in the game, Amad did brilliantly to nick the ball off of a Chelsea defender and with the goalkeeper out of his goal, there was a simple pass to Šeško.
But the Ivorian didn’t find the pass and the chance was wasted. If he was slightly more clinical and calm, United would have been 3-0 up and the game would’ve been over.
“We started really well, really aggressive, and then the sending off helped us a lot and then we scored two goals and had everything under control,” explained Amorim.
“Then we have a situation three against one and the goalkeeper is out of the goal, and we missed the last pass and then as usual we complicate things and make everything hard with the sending off of Casemiro.
“But we fight in the second half and in the end we suffer together and I think we deserved the win.”
Šeško wait for goal goes on
Amad was one of United’s best players last season but he does seem to be having some difficulties in these opening fixtures.
His biggest strength compared to United’s other attackers beforehand was that calmness and quality when he entered important areas of the pitch. That isn’t quite clicking for him at the moment.
That opportunity in the first half was perhaps more frustrating because it stopped Šeško from netting his first United goal, which would have been great for him.
Instead, the Slovenian was substituted at the break and must wait another week before he gets his next chance to get on the scoresheet.
