Rúben Amorim explains double Man Utd XI change as ‘complete team’ point made vs Brighton

Rúben Amorim has addressed his Manchester United starting XI selection as they welcome Brighton to Old Trafford.

After a thrilling 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend, Manchester United return to Old Trafford for a challenging showdown with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Rúben Amorim’s tenure has faced turbulence this season, with defeats to Brentford and Grimsby Town prompting uncertainty over his long-term future.

However, the victory at Anfield — United’s first there in almost ten years and their second consecutive league triumph — has brought a renewed sense of belief around the club.

Even so, Brighton have proven to be stubborn opposition in recent years, and Amorim will be eager to make amends for last season’s 3-1 home defeat to Fabian Hürzler’s side.

Amorim explains starting XI selections

To face Brighton, Amorim has chosen to make two changes. After Harry Maguire and Mason Mount suffered knocks in the week, the head coach has decided to swap the English duo out for Leny Yoro and Benjamin Šeško, respectively.

Maguire is not in the squad after failing to pass a fitness test on Friday, while Mount is deemed fit enough to be selected on the bench, with Matheus Cunha moving to start in his more natural left-sided role.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of the game, Amorim was asked about his selection, to which he replied that’s he’s selected a team who will be tasked with keeping possession.

“We want to play with the ball, because it’s necessary to be the best team possible, he said. “Everyone knows how we want to play each match.

“It’s a match where you have to take advantage of everything, and when you have a goalkeeper capable of moving you forward on the pitch with Bryan [Mbeumo], Cunha… we will use everything we need, with and without the ball.

“That’s what a complete team must do.”

A win vs Brighton can dispel old demons

Brighton are one of only two other clubs in Premier League history to have won three fixtures in a row against United, with the other being Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Last time out, Hürzler’s men put three past the Reds due to multiple errors from André Onana, but this time around, United are heading into the tie with much more confidence.

Goalkeeper Senne Lammens is starting his third game in a row after two positive displays against Sunderland and Liverpool, with many hoping the Belgian can continue his good form in Red.

If United can defeat Brighton on Saturday evening, this would do a lot to help dispel their current demons, as it would mean the end of the Seagull’s recent dominance at Old Trafford and also secure AMorim his third Premier League win in a row.
