Rúben Amorim’s biggest difference with Erik ten Hag speaks volumes about Manchester United’s summer window
The biggest difference between Rúben Amorim and Erik ten Hag speaks volumes about the summer transfer window Manchester United are about to have.
Rúben Amorim’s first three months at Manchester United have been anything but straightforward since replacing Erik ten Hag.
Taking charge in mid-November with United struggling in 13th place in the Premier League and managing just one win in the Europa League, the 40-year-old set out to stabilise a club in crisis.
There have been encouraging moments, including impressive away victories over Arsenal and Manchester City, but inconsistency remains a concern. Under Amorim, United have won 10 of their first 20 matches, losing eight and drawing two.
Off the pitch, the challenges have been just as significant. Three senior attackers departed on loan during the winter transfer window without replacements coming in, while Lisandro Martínez faces the prospect of missing the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
However, there have been positives. United strengthened at left wing-back with the signing of Patrick Dorgu, while 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven has arrived as a promising prospect for the future.
Amorim and Ten Hag’s biggest difference
United switching from Ten Hag to Amorim was a significant change – the type of manager, the style of their coaching, and the way they conduct themselves are entirely differenet.
This can all be seen through the public eye, but according to the Manchester Evening News, this also runs deeper to behind the scenes, too.
The report states that compared to Ten Hag, Amorim has taken a much more professional approach with respect to his relationship with the squad’s players, with the 40-year-old not as close to his squad as his predecessor was.
Amorim is said to have a natural affinity towards Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot due to the Portuguese connections, but Amorim is not getting too attached to most of his players.
This speaks volumes about the summer transfer window
United are set to have a mass exodus this summer, with up to nine senior players almost certain to leave Old Trafford.
Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans are all out of contract this summer, while Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are all expected to leave once their contracts expire.
Many also assume that Casemiro will depart permanently once the summer window opens, while serious questions remain surrounding the futures of Luke Shaw and Altay Bayındır.
With Amorim keeping a professional distance from his players and making sure he does not become too attached or reliant on them, it shows that United are set to have a big upheaval of the squad in the summer.
