Ruben Amorim is reportedly ‘determined’ to help one Manchester United star this season, with a ‘strong possibility’ of there being a position change.

Manchester United are gearing up for a demanding winter schedule under new head coach Ruben Amorim, which includes key fixtures against Manchester City and Arsenal.

Currently 13th in the Premier League, Amorim’s focus is on enhancing performances and bridging the four-point gap to the top four.

After officially beginning his tenure last week, the 39-year-old conducted his first training session at Carrington on Monday, following visa clearance for himself and his staff.

The Portuguese coach was hands-on throughout the session, participating in drills and offering Kobbie Mainoo personalised advice on improving his technique for receiving passes.

He would have been assessing his playing squad to see who will fit into his system ahead of the opening game against Ipswich Town.

Amorim determined to help Shaw

According to a new report from GiveMeSport, Amorim is ‘determined’ to give Luke Shaw the chance to rediscover his best form at Old Trafford.

Shaw has been unavailable for United since February with various injury troubles. He was criticised for making himself available for England at Euro 2024.

The report claimed that the 39-year-old coach has received detailed briefings on Shaw’s fitness and injury history and wants to help make his return to fitness successful.

He will be careful in terms of Shaw’s game-time, which was the root cause for his injury in February, and the defender, who earns £150,000-a-week at Old Trafford, is ‘desperate’ to prove his worth under Amorim.

With open dialogue between player and head coach, Amorim wants the defender to prove his availability in the coming weeks and he could have an adjusted role.

The report finalised that there is a ‘strong possibility’ of the experienced left-back being utilised at left centre-back instead of as a wingback.

Amorim will implement a 3-4-3 formation at Old Trafford and Shaw does seem like he could suit playing in the back three rather than running up and down the wing.

The 29-year-old was played in that left centre-back role during Amorim’s first training session at Carrington, with Tyrell Malacia playing as the wingback.

Shaw will probably feel that this is his last chance to prove his fitness after countless injury issues over the years. There’s no doubt if he can do that, he’ll be a big help to Amorim’s team.
