Ruben Amorim delivers clear Chido Obi assessment after Man Utd vs Fulham defeat

Chido Obi came off the bench in Manchester United’s FA Cup exit against Fulham but impressed with his display.
Manchester United began the FA Cup clash with promise but struggled to pose any real danger in the final third, hindered by a lack of pace in their attacking play.
As the first half neared its end, Ruben Amorim’s side conceded a disappointing goal—once again from a corner—leaving them with a challenging task in the second half.
The response was sluggish, and the Old Trafford crowd grew increasingly frustrated with the team’s lack of urgency.
However, as has been the case throughout the season, when United needed a spark, Bruno Fernandes stepped up. He latched onto Diogo Dalot’s low cross with precision to net a crucial equaliser.
With the game forced into extra time, neither side could break the deadlock. Ultimately, Fulham triumphed in the penalty shootout after Victor Lindelöf and Joshua Zirkzee saw their spot-kicks saved.
Obi impresses for United in Fulham cameo
Despite the gut-wrenching defeat, United saw a glimmer of positivity from the cameo of Chido Obi, who replaced Rasmus Højlund midway through the second half.
United could barely find the teenager before the latter stages of the 90 minutes but he showcased some good moments before extra-time, which included a couple of chances in front of goal and some decent hold-up play.
It was very interesting to see the 17-year-old bully Calvin Bassey to create an opening for one chance. Højlund bounced off the Fulham defender multiple times in the game beforehand.
Obi got to play another 30 minutes due to extra-time and he also had a chance to score during that period but saw a smart shot expertly saved.
Amorim’s assessment on Obi vs Fulham
After the game, Amorim was asked about the performance of the young striker.
Despite suggesting that Obi was slightly naive in moments, the United boss was impressed by the cameo on what was a “very good day” for the teenager.
He said: “Chido [Obi], very good moves, a lot to improve, a bit naive, but a very good day for Chido, less so for the team.”
United fans are calling for the teenager to start in the upcoming games ahead of Højlund, who has now been without a goal in his last 18 appearances.
