Ruben Amorim decides three Manchester United players are not “long-term” options at Old Trafford
There are several Manchester United players who could be sold next summer as they do not fit the system under Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim recognised the need for reinforcements in his Manchester United squad ahead of the January transfer window.
The most urgent concern was at wingback, with United’s current options like Diogo Dalot being underwhelming.
To address this, the club secured the signing of Patrick Dorgu for a reported £25 million. He is expected to slot in as the starting left-wingback in Amorim’s strongest lineup.
Additionally, United bolstered their defense with the acquisition of left-sided centre-back Ayden Heaven, an addition of greater importance following Lisandro Martínez’s anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Marcus Rashford and Antony have departed on loan, while Tyrell Malacia is expected to join them with a move to PSV Eindhoven close. Various youth players have also been sent on loans.
Three United players not long-term options
It is no surprise to see Malacia head towards the exit door this window after minimal chances on the pitch under Amorim.
The Dutchman does not suit the role as wingback and there are also others who don’t seem to fit in the position.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has suggested that Malacia, Dalot and Luke Shaw are unlikely to be “long-term members” of Amorim’s squad due to their inability to excel as wingbacks.
“He [Malacia] is another that just doesn’t fit the system,” Bailey told UnitedInFocus. “It is why we probably won’t see Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot as long-term members of the squad.
“Amorim has decided he does not have a future. He has been so unlucky with injuries, but we are unlikely to see him in United colours again.”
Summer window becomes crucial for United
United are almost throwing this season away considering the lack of major movement in the transfer market.
That means that fans will be expecting important deals in the summer to properly back the manager in his first full season in charge of the club.
That does not only mean players need to come in, but sales also must be made. Players like Antony and Malacia have to leave on permanent deals while others in the squad who are not up to scratch have to be found moves early.
INEOS can not leave their action until late in the window and they have to try and turn fan opinion around after a troubled start to life in charge at Old Trafford.
