Ruben Amorim debating whether to drop André Onana vs Rangers after “awful” Manchester Unitedperformance
Manchester United return to Europa League action this week against Rangers and Ruben Amorim is set to make some changes to his lineup.
There are two remaining league-phase fixtures in the Europa League this season and Manchester United need to secure their place in the top eight of the table.
Ruben Amorim has mentioned on several occasions the importance of missing the play-off stage of the competition, where the teams who finish between 9th and 24th play two extra games.
United would then be awarded with some extra training time in between future Premier League fixtures.
However, in order to secure their qualification, United must get positive results against Rangers and FCSB in the coming weeks.
With their clash against the Scottish outfit up next, Amorim is reportedly deliberating some important changes that need to be made for his team.
Amorim debates dropping Onana vs Rangers
André Onana has started all six of United’s games in the Europa League so far this season but may be benched for the first time this Thursday.
The Cameroon international made an “awful” blunder last time out as United lost 3-1 to Brighton, after he spilled a routine cross into the path of substitute Georginio Rutter, who made no mistake in front of an empty net.
According to a report from FourFourTwo, there have been conversations between Amorim and his staff to whether Onana should be drooped for this game.
Altay Bayindir could very well be in line for his first European appearance for the club after he impressed against Arsenal in the FA Cup victory last week.
Bayindir took opportunity vs Arsenal
Bayindir has made just five appearances for United since he signed for the club in the summer of 2023, but four of those games have come this season.
United fans had major question marks over the goalkeeper after his poor display against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup but he made up for it at the Emirates Stadium.

After his penalty-saving heroics helped United progress to the next round of the FA Cup, pundits and fans alike were debating whether he could get the nod over Onana in more important games in the future.
“It is hard because it is one game so you have to be careful not to be reactionary,” said Micah Richards on BBC Sport. “Onana has been alright [this season] but he does make a lot of mistakes.
“In terms of calmness, United looked really comfortable in their structure so it will be one for the manager to decide.”
Alan Shearer added: “When you get your opportunity, you have to take it – and he took it!”
