Ruben Amorim could end up handing Bryan Mbeumo the perfect arrival gift at Manchester United as the club have been given the green light to attempt to sign his former teammate.
After swiftly securing the signing of Matheus Cunha early in the transfer window, Manchester United quickly turned their focus to Brentford standout Bryan Mbeumo.
The Cameroon international enjoyed a prolific campaign last season, netting 20 Premier League goals. Following United’s expression of interest, Mbeumo made it clear he favoured a move to Old Trafford over potential switches to Newcastle or Tottenham.
United initially submitted offers of £55 million and later £62.5 million, both of which were turned down, prolonging the transfer saga.
However, David Ornstein has now confirmed that a third bid, worth £65 million plus a further £5 million in add-ons, has been lodged. Other reports indicate this latest proposal will be accepted by Brentford.
Amorim could hand Mbeumo perfect arrival gift
Mbeumo and Cunha immediately turn United’s attacking options around but there is still a desire to sign a number nine who can compliment them both.
United will need to complete sales before moving for any extra players. One of the striker options they are considering is Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa.
The Midlands club value the England international at over £50 million, a fee which would take United’s summer spending to more than £180 million on those three attacking players.
Interestingly, it has been revealed in recent reports that Watkins himself has given the green light for an Old Trafford move should it become a realistic possibility.
Watkins and Mbeumo played together at Brentford for a year before the 29-year-old departed for Villa in 2020, and Mbeumo would certainly be keen to work with him again.
Some progress on United exits
While there are still no sales to report on at United, there seems to be some sort of progress occurring in recent days.
There have been two bids for Jadon Sancho coming from Juventus, who seem keen to sign the 25-year-old winger.
Meanwhile, it is also being claimed that Villa are considering making a bid for Alejandro Garnacho, who has made it clear that he only wants to play in the Premier League.
Marcus Rashford and Antony are waiting for movement for their desired moves to Barcelona and Real Betis, respectively, while there have been no real updates on Tyrell Malacia’s situation.
