Ruben Amorim confirms what Sir Jim Ratcliffe told him in private meeting as Man Utd’s sack stance clarified

Ruben Amorim spoke with Sir Jim Ratcliffe this week after Manchester United’s poor start to the new Premier League campaign.

Manchester United have begun the season with their worst Premier League start since 1992/93, collecting only four points from their opening four matches.

Back then, the Reds rallied to secure the first of their 13 league titles, but a similar kind of revival feels almost impossible now.

Defeats to Manchester City and Arsenal, a draw with Fulham, and a narrow victory over Burnley highlight their struggles, while a surprise Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town has only piled on further pressure.

Ruben Amorim’s rigid tactics and contentious selections are facing mounting criticism, and United’s next challenge comes at Old Trafford against Chelsea.

Amorim confirms what Ratcliffe told him in private United meeting

It was reported earlier in the week that Sir Jim Ratcliffe had flown to Manchester this week to hold meetings with Amorim after reports explained that the United hierarchy are not thinking of sacking the Portuguese boss.

When asked about what occurred in those meetings, Amorim joked that United’s co-owner was offering him a new contract. He then explained how the message from Ratcliffe was that the season is long and that he is still only in his first full season with the club.

“New contract. He was offering me a new contract [laughs],” said Amorim.

“No, it was normal things, to show his support, explaining that it is a long project. He said many times this is my first season. For me it’s not.

“But normal things. I spoke with him, Omar and Jason, trying to see all the data around the team. So a normal meeting and we had several. But in this moment, it’s normal people pay attention to that.”

Amorim must make tweaks

It is clear that United are not thinking about sacking Amorim now but things clearly need to improve quickly otherwise that stance will change.

Amorim is making it clear that he will not change his approach, but there needs to be a level of flexibility from the United boss to solve issues.

That doesn’t neccearily mean changing his entire philosophy but instead making small tweaks in different areas.

One thing is for sure, something needs to change in the midfield; whether it be personnel, moving an extra man in there or something else.
