Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed what his side has worked on in training this week. It is a massive boost for new striker Benjamin Šeško.
Manchester United’s dismal start to the new season faces another tough test at the weekend as the Red Devils host a Chelsea side that are currently unbeaten in the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim’s position as the United boss has come under threat due to only winning one game across all competitions this campaign.
The Reds suffered a difficult defeat in their last match, as they were beaten 3-0 by their neighbours Manchester City, thanks to a Phil Foden header and an Erling Haaland brace.
Although Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo have struggled to get amongst the goals for their new side so far, Amorim has explained why they can be hopeful for this to change.
Amorim seeing improvements
As reported by Sky Sports, the Portuguese tactician claimed that he can see improvements in his side’s performances, despite the lack of positive results.
Amorim said, “Last year, I was very critical of the way we played. I think we are playing well until the boxes, defending and attacking.
“We need to be more aggressive in the boxes. We need to be more clinical. The rest, I think we are improving compared to last year. We are in a better place.
“But we need to win. We lost against Arsenal and Man City. Here, losing, especially in the beginning after last season, is a problem.”
United’s ‘clinical’ training focus
Continuing his answer, the United boss said, “We are playing well until we reach the boxes. We need to be more clinical. The number of shots and the xG are good, but if you don’t score, it doesn’t matter.
“The way we suffered the goals, we can avoid that. We are being naive, we need to be more aggressive in order to win games.
“We have to maintain the way we’re playing and improving in our box and the opposition’s box – that was the focus of the week. Especially against Chelsea, when they cross, they are the side with the most players in the box.”
This can be seen as good news, especially for Šeško, who saw many wayward crosses go far over his head in the Manchester derby. Hopefully, Amorim’s wish for a clinical edge can be instilled into his players as he looks to turn his tenure around.
