Ruben Amorim confirms double injury blow for Manchester United ahead of Aston Villa clash

Ruben Amorim has confirmed two injuries within his Manchester United squad ahead of their final Premier League game of the season against Aston Villa.

Manchester United’s 2024/25 season is finally nearing its conclusion, and most fans are relieved to see the end of what has been one of the club’s worst campaigns in recent memory.

Following their defeat in the Europa League final, United were hit with the harsh reality of their situation — no European qualification and languishing near the bottom of the Premier League table.

That night in Bilbao offered a glimmer of hope — a potential route into the Champions League despite their poor league form. But it wasn’t to be.

Now, with attention turning to the summer and how the club can begin to address its many problems ahead of next season, there’s still one final Premier League fixture to fulfil.

United welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, with Unai Emery’s side eager to claim victory as they chase a Champions League spot of their own.

Amorim confirms double injury blow for United

Despite being a near-pointless game for the Reds, they have still named a strong side on paper, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro starting.

However, Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw are out of action after they each played 90 minutes during the Europa League final and Amorim has confirmed they both suffered foot injuries.

The United boss explained that he wants to ‘protect’ them, which suggests that they are not serious injuries and more likely to be precautionary. He did not clarify why Joshua Zirkzee was absent.

“Luke Shaw has a problem in his feet, we have to protect him,” the 40-year-old told TNT Sports ahead of kick-off at Old Trafford.

“Leny Yoro the same thing, two games before he had an issue and we want to protect the future of our club. We want also to win the game but we have to measure these things in this moment.”

United are set to travel for their post-season tour of Asia after the finish the game at Old Trafford, but it remains to be seen whether either of them are involved.

Amorim addresses Garnacho rumours

Amorim also took time ahead of the game to address Alejandro Garnacho’s absence from the squad after reports emerged that said he told the Argentine to leave the club this summer.

He suggested the 20-year-old will continue to be part of the squad despite not being involved against Villa, and did not clarify why he is not playing.

“Garnacho is a Manchester United player that is not in the squad today, but he continues to be a Manchester United player,” Amorim told TNT Sports.

Asked whether the winger would be involved in the post-season friendlies in Asia, he added: “Yes. Everybody is going. We have to go and meet our fans.”

There are several clubs, including Chelsea and Napoli, reportedly interested in Garnacho’s services if he does leave Old Trafford.
