Rúben Amorim has provided the latest on Bruno Fernandes’ possible injury following a 2-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United mounted a strong second-half comeback on Sunday, with goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount securing a 2–1 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace.
The match started at a frenetic pace, with early chances for both sides as Jean-Philippe Mateta and Casemiro came close within the first 10 minutes, while the South London sun added an extra challenge. Palace gradually gained control and were rewarded when Leny Yoro brought down Mateta in the box.
Mateta’s first penalty was disallowed for a double-hit, but he calmly converted the retake to give the hosts the lead. United struggled to find rhythm before half-time as Palace maintained their pressure.
After the break, United showed greater intent and levelled through Zirkzee. The Dutch forward met a Bruno Fernandes free kick on his chest, turned sharply, and fired a precise finish past Dean Henderson from a tight angle.
With around 30 minutes remaining, a clever set-piece routine allowed Mount to fire United ahead. Palace pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Rúben Amorim’s side defended resolutely to secure a valuable three points.
Amorim addresses Fernandes hamstring update
Toward the end of the game, Fernandes had a couple of dodgy moments, swinging and missing a clearance and having a few poor, misplaced passes.
Then, in added time, the Portuguese midfielder was seen holding his hamstring, which sent a wave of worry among United’s faithful.
However, speaking with TNT Sports after the game, Amorim has confirmed that Fernandes himself admitted it was just a twinge from the miskick, and is no significant problem.
“It was just the kick,” Amorim said. “I was shouting at him because he needs to learn. We make a substitution in the end. He needs to talk to the bench, but he said it was, like, just a kick. So everything is okay.”
United more intense in the second half
The entire fixture against Everton earlier this week and the first half of the game against Palace saw the side play with a distinct lack of intensity.
After going 1-0 down at Selhurst Park, I’m worried for United, but their second-half display was much better. The intensity and organisation didn’t go unnoticed by the United boss, either.
“I think we have more intensity in the second half,” Amorim commented. “We play better in the second half, and the opponent in the second half was more tired, so, everything in connected.
“But again, the small things, the way that Josh controls the ball in the second half was different, the way we defend second balls was different, so these small details make the difference, and then the talent in front, we scored two.”
