Rúben Amorim confirms £120k p/w star ruled out of Rangers clash in triple Manchester United injury update
Rúben Amorim has handed injury updates on three Manchester United players as they prepare to face Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Manchester United are set to welcome Rangers to Old Trafford on Thursday evening as they resume their Europa League campaign.
The start of 2025 has been a mixed bag for Rúben Amorim’s side. A gritty draw with Liverpool and an impressive win over Arsenal raised hopes of a strong run, but an underwhelming victory against Southampton – despite a stunning hat-trick from Amad – followed by a 3-1 defeat to Brighton has left fans frustrated.
Thursday’s game provides the perfect opportunity for United to steady the ship and rebuild confidence among supporters. Entering the match as firm favourites, they’ll be eager to deliver a performance worthy of their ambitions.
Currently seventh in the Europa League standings – well within the automatic qualification spots for the knockout stages – a win would reinforce their position and help restore some much-needed momentum.
Amorim provides triple United injury update
Speaking to club media ahead of the Rangers tie, Amorim delivered the latest on three Manchester United players.
Victor Lindelöf was spotted back in training for the first time since he was ruled out against Tottenham in December, but Amorim confirmed that the defender will not be part of the squad on Thursday.
Lindelöf is expected to leave United at the end of June once his £ 120,000 a week contract expires.
“Vic is training but I prefer to do extra work today because I want him for a long time, not just to put him [in] right away,” Amorim told MUTV.
He also explained that Shaw is recovering well after undergoing an injury update scan on Wednesday and that Mason Mount is working hard on his return.
“For the rest, Luke is recovering really well. Mason Mount, it’s good to see them on the pitch.
“[So] just Vic [back in training], but he’s not in the squad.”
Rangers latest injury news
Rangers are grappling with several injury issues as they prepare to face United at Old Trafford.
Fresh off a 5-0 cup victory against Highland League side Fraserburgh, where they made significant rotations, the team received a boost with club captain James Tavernier making his first start since late December after recovering from injury.
However, former United players Tom Lawrence and Jack Butland will be unavailable, while defenders John Souttar and Dujon Sterling are still sidelined.
To bolster their defence amidst these setbacks, Rangers have brought in centre-back Rafael Fernandes on loan from French side LOSC Lille.
