Rúben Amorim has broken his silence on a potential debut for Chido Obi-Martin following Manchester United’s current goalscoring struggles.

Manchester United have faced widespread criticism for their lack of attacking reinforcements during the recent winter transfer window.

The club sanctioned loan moves for Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Ethan Wheatley to Aston Villa, Real Betis, and Walsall, respectively, leaving Rúben Amorim with a depleted attacking lineup.

Despite these departures, United failed to strengthen their forward options, leaving Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad as the only recognised attackers in the squad.

However, reports suggest that youngster Chido Obi-Martin could be in line for his first-team debut this season, having recently been involved in first-team training.

Amorim issues Obi-Martin debut chances

Amid the criticism of United’s goalscoring problems and poor window with respect to recruiting a new forward, many fans have floated the idea of Academy striker Chido Obi-Martin.

The Danish youth striker signed for United earlier this season and has been fantastic for the Academy side, scoring nine goals in ten games.

During his pre-match press conference, Amorim was asked about whether he would consider bringing in Obi-Martin this season.

The head coach explained that although he feels Højlund and Zirkzee can improve their levels to help the team score more goals, a debut for Obi-Martin is not out of the question later this campaign.

“He’s doing his job, he’s improving, he’s playing in the youth teams, and we have also other players that can play in that position,” Amorim said of Obi-Martin.

“Rasmus and Josh are there, we bought these two players, so we need to improve them and then sometimes the confidence can change a player.

“We will see in the end of the season, but, until then, we have two strikers that can score goals. They proved it in the past. Let’s see if we can improve as a team, to help them to score goals.”
