Ruben Amorim has been brutally told that he has ‘no excuses’ at Manchester United this season ahead of an away trip against Wolves.
Manchester United are gearing up for one of their final away matches of 2025, with Rúben Amorim preparing his squad for a Monday night meeting against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rob Edwards’ side have endured a bleak season to this point, rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and managing just two draws alongside ten defeats from their first 14 fixtures.
United, however, are hardly entering the contest in ideal condition. Tension around the team continues to rise after another disappointing showing at Old Trafford, where they were held to a 1-1 draw by 18th-placed West Ham on Thursday.
With the pressure increasing on Amorim to secure a Champions League finish, and speculation beginning to swirl about his long-term position, the trip to Molineux is shaping up to be a vital must-win opportunity.
Amorim brutally told he has ‘no excuses’ at United this season
United’s ambitions this season is to qualify for European football but some believe that they are not good enough to finish in those spots.
Alan Shearer has claimed that the Reds cannot finish above seventh this term but also stated that Amorim’s side have ‘no excuses’ when they are not playing in Europe compared to some of their rivals.
I think Manchester United are more of a seven, eight, nine, 10th-place team than anything else. And even when they can win, I’m not convinced they’re that good,” Shearer told Betfair.
“It could be lack of energy or lack of mentality. But they have no excuse, they have no European football. Compare them to Aston Villa, Crystal Palace or Newcastle, and it’s like: “Come on, what have you got?” Manchester United are nothing better than okay.”
No European football is significant
Amorim himself said that United would be better off without European football this season so they could focus on the Premier League. He now has to prove that.
We are approaching the period of the season where those competing in Europe will not be getting a rest at all and difficulties will come for most of those clubs.
But United need to be in a position to take advantage of that situation, and their inconsistency at the moment does not suggest that they will.
There are no excuses for the Reds to not rise into European spots this term, and many would argue that Champions League qualification is necessary.
