Rúben Amorim insists that one of his Manchester United stars is still “world-class” despite links to Saudi Pro League sides.
Manchester United are narrowing in on their final three transfer targets as Rúben Amorim prepares for his first full campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo have already joined the club this summer. Cunha and Mbeumo are set to form part of a restructured attacking trio, while 18-year-old Leon will provide cover for Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu at left wing-back.
With five weeks left in the window, United remain focused on signing a proven striker, a defensive midfielder, and a goalkeeper to push André Onana.
However, progress will depend on player sales — and significant names, including Alejandro Garnacho, could be moved on to fund further business.
Shaw handed Saudi transfer offer
Luke Shaw has played 287 times for United as he heads into his 11th season at the club, but has made just 23 appearances across the last two seasons after struggling with injuries.
To compare, club captain Bruno Fernandes has played 290 times in Red, despite being at United for around half the number of seasons.
Reports earlier this week suggested that Shaw is aware of serious interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and is open to considering offers for a move away from United this summer.
The 30-year-old left-back has two years left on his £150,000-a-week contract but is said to be concerned that his role at Old Trafford is diminishing. He has fallen out of favour in the left wing-back position under Amorim, and the rise of Ayden Heaven at left centre-back has further limited his prospects.
That said, Amorim is not actively looking to move Shaw on, as the defender remains a respected and influential figure in the dressing room. Still, with United needing to generate funds through sales, a reasonable offer would likely be entertained.
Amorim breaks silence on Shaw
Despite the links away from United, Amorim has publicly stated that he still feels the England international is a “world-class” player who is capable of contributing next campaign.

“I think Luke Shaw is a world-class player,” Amorim explained during a pre-season press conference on Friday afternoon. “That is my feeling. When he touches the ball, the ability to play one against one, and you can feel in the small things.
“England have two finals, and they have issues during the season, but in the final, he’s always there. That means something, but he needs to be fit, he needs to train always in the limit.
“I think he’s doing that in the moment. So he’s a great player, but he has competition this season, so I’m really pleased also with Luke.”
