Ruben Amorim believes that one Manchester United star still deserves to have a key role at the club next season despite plans for an exit at the end of the campaign.
Manchester United will need to deliver significant improvements in the upcoming season following a disappointing and frustrating campaign last time out.
Ruben Amorim not only requires additional reinforcements in the transfer market but must also focus on maximising the potential of the current squad at Old Trafford.
Despite last season’s poor performances, United still possess a core group of players capable of making a real difference, with Bruno Fernandes and Amad the standouts.
But there are also other players within the group who should be able to make a positive impact next term.
Amorim believes United star still deserves to be key player
After serious struggles at the club, Harry Maguire has managed to turn around his reputation under Amorim and become a regular starter once again.
Amorim has previously described the defender, who fell out of favour under Erik ten Hag, as ‘perfect’ for the middle centre-back role as he is ‘really strong’ at the back.
According to the latest reports from GiveMeSport, the United boss believes that Maguire still deserves to be a ‘key squad member’ at the club next term.
The 32-year-old is also viewed by Amorim as someone who can help build a new culture in the dressing room at Old Trafford.
Maguire made 40 appearances for United last season, with 30 of those being starts. He scored four goals, with one being the last-minute winner against Lyon in the Europa League.
Maguire likely to leave United in 2026
Even though Maguire looks likely to be an important player for United next season, it seems unlikely that he remains at the club afterwards.
United activated the option to extend his contract by another year in January rather than agreeing to a longer-term deal with the defender.
Maguire will be 33 years old by the time his contract expires in June 2026 and it is extremely unlikely that the leadership team will want him to stay at the club beyond that point.

Not only does the English centre-back earn almost £200,000-a-week but United are also growing a strong defensive unit with many different options.
While all signs point towards a 2026 exit for Maguire, he still looks set to have an important role during his seventh and final campaign at Old Trafford.
