Ruben Amorim still believes that one of his Manchester United players has the perfect profile to succeed despite dressing room rumours and his inconsistent performances.
Manchester United’s season has begun inconsistently, leaving them 10th in the Premier League after seven games.
Losses to Arsenal, Manchester City, and Brentford have been countered by victories over Chelsea, Sunderland, and Burnley, with their meeting against Fulham ending in a stalemate.
Under Ruben Amorim, the Reds have shown glimpses of quality mixed with ongoing concerns, and many fans believe the team’s progress has yet to reach the level expected.
While there have been some standout performers, such as Matthijs de Ligt and Bryan Mbeumo, the majority of United’s squad need to show improvements in the coming weeks and months.
Amorim believes “inconsistent” United star is the perfect profile
Manuel Ugarte has only started one Premier League game so far this season and that was only due to the suspension of Casemiro. His performances have been described as ‘inconsistent’.
The ex-Sporting midfielder has found himself out of Amorim’s favoured team and rumours from earlier this week suggested that the United boss told Ugarte at the end of last season that he wasn’t the same player he was in Portugal.
This seemed to suggest that Amorim does not rate Ugarte as highly as he used to, and the fact that he is not starting games regularly backs that up, although that dressing room rumour has since been dismissed by various reports.
Now, updates from Ben Jacobs have explained how the 40-year-old believes Ugarte is the perfect kind of profile for his system and how he wants to get more out of him.
“I’m told that Ruben Amorim really likes Manuel Ugarte and thinks he’s exactly the right kind of profile and just needs to get that extra bit out of him,” Jacobs told The United Stand YouTube channel.
Ugarte yet to show fans he can be a success
Ugarte might have impressed Amorim in Portugal but he is yet to do anything to suggest he will be a success at Old Trafford under him or any other manager.
We’re over a year into his career at United and it still seems like his only significant strength is the ability to get around the pitch, but his success-rate in duels and ability to sense when to protect the space rather than chase the ball is consistently poor.
Toby Collyer has only played a handful of matches for United’s first-team and is now on loan at West Brom, but he showed in that time that he could do a similar job to Ugarte.
United fans will be hoping that Amorim can bring something out of Ugarte that they haven’t seen before but there definitely isn’t a confidence around that it will happen.
