Rúben Amorim being forced to repeat Erik ten Hag transfer problem, Man Utd insiders ‘not happy’ with the situation

Rúben Amorim is being forced to repeat a transfer problem that Erik ten Hag suffered two seasons ago, with those inside Manchester United not happy with the situation.

Manchester United are preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer as they look to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s first transfer window. The club are aiming to sell several players who no longer fit the direction Amorim wants to take the team.

Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are both expected to leave once their contracts expire at the end of the season. Neither are in the club’s long-term plans moving forward.

United are also planning to offload players currently out on loan. Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are all likely to be sold, with Amorim not expected to reintegrate any of them into his squad.

Casemiro is another player possibly heading for the exit, as the club shifts towards a younger, more dynamic profile better suited to Amorim’s tactical approach, while his current wage is a significant drain on the club’s resources.

Amorim set to repeat Ten Hag transfer issue

At the end of Erik ten Hag’s first season at United, the club chose to let go of long-term goalkeeper David de Gea after a series of error-strung performances saw the Spaniard fall from grace at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman reportedly saw these series of errors as a sign that the player could not continue as first choice, and he departed United for free with André Onana joining as his replacement.

Now, two seasons later, Amorim is facing the same problem. Onana has produced multiple shocking performances of late that has thrown his future into doubt two years on from De Gea’s poor form saw him ejected from the squad.

According to The Athletic, insiders at the club are unhappy with the fact that United may have to sign yet another goalkeeper, with the sense of deja vu around the situation not what anyone in the club was hoping for.

Is Onana leaving this summer a real possibility?

In short, yes.

The Cameroon international was dropped for United’s 4-1 loss against Newcastle after poor performances against Lyon, and it’s currently unclear whether he will return for the second leg against the Ligue 1 side on Thursday evening.

Faith in Onana is eroding at the club following his numerous errors on the field, and although Amorim chose not to select Onana on the weekend to allow him to “disconnect” from football and have some space after the intense pressure, his future is in major doubt.

The Athletic claim that there is now a feeling at United that both the club and the player may explore his departure in the coming months.

Saudi Pro League clubs were interested in the 28-year-old beore his move to United in 2023, and the interest is said to remain with approaches for Onana expected to come once the season ends.
