Ruben Amorim becoming “increasingly familiar” with exciting Chido Obi Martin, calls for Manchester United debut
Manchester United starlet Chido Obi Martin has been impressing since his arrival from Arsenal earlier this season.
Obi Martin, 17, scored a hat-trick on his United youth debut earlier this season, netting all three goals in less than 13 minutes.
Despite being a youth team player, the young striker is known by almost all United fans already after his well-documented move from Premier League rivals Arsenal.
He is considered as one of the most exiting attacking forwards in the country and has already scored 10 goals in United’s youth teams since his arrival.
The Dane has started to get used to Under-21s football at Old Trafford, with the long-term aim of making it to the first-team.
Obi Martin training with United first-team
According to a report from MailSport, United boss Ruben Amorim and his staff are starting to become “increasingly familiar” with Obi Martin.
It was explained that the 17-year-old talent hass recently been taking part in first-team training sessions.
His involvement usually comes the day after matches, where numbers in Amorim’s sessions are slightly depleted.
Amorim has previously explained the importance of younger players being involved in first-team training to prepare themselves for the step up.
“They are learning about football – the football idea. But they have to feel that [by] training with the first-team,” he explained.
“That is important for them to grow, to understand what they need to be there. We will do that often.”
United carefully managing Obi Martin’s development
Obi Martin’s excellent ability is no secret to supporters due to the extremely public chase for his signature in the summer.
That has led to some fans wanting him to be fast-tracked into the first-team setup at United due to the goalscoring problems at the club, with Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee misfiring.
However, the aforementioned report added that there are no immediate plans within the club to accelerate the teenager up the age groups, with his development being carefully managed.
Amorim is yet to properly utilise the Academy at the club despite being well-known for trusting the youth at Sporting.
It is likely that he wants to create a more stable environment before throwing teenagers into the equation and the same will apply to Obi Martin.
