Ruben Amorim backed for shock Premier League return one week after Man Utd sack, “talking behind the scenes…”

Ruben Amorim is being backed for a sensational return to the Premier League only one week on from his Manchester United sacking.

Following a 1-1 draw with Leeds United, Ruben Amorim was relieved from his duties as manager of Manchester United due to some explosive comments that he made in his post-match press conference.

Since his sacking, the Reds have been under the management of their former midfielder Darren Fletcher, who took charge of both their recent Premier League and FA Cup fixtures.

Unfortunately for the Red Devils, they fell short of victory in both of these recent ties and have since agreed to bring in Michael Carrick as a caretaker for the remainder of the season.

United aren’t the only side that seems to be keen on a change of management, and another Premier League side may turn to Amorim to solve their current struggles.

Amorim backed for top-flight return

Following a difficult start to life in North London, Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is under increasing pressure and could be replaced in the near future.

As reported by GOAL, former Spurs defender Sol Campbell is backing Amorim to be a successor to Frank if they decide to sack the Dane.

Campbell told SkyBet, “Ruben Amorim. They’ll be looking at him. They’re probably talking to him now, that wouldn’t surprise me. I don’t think he’ll go back to Portugal.

“Tottenham will be talking to him to see if there’s any situation going on – there’ll be people talking behind the scenes.

“Thomas Frank is a top manager, but he’s not at Brentford anymore – it’s a different animal. Tottenham is a big club and people are demanding.

“They want success, and they want to keep moving forward in a successful way. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re talking to other managers.”

Would Spurs suit Amorim?

Given that the Lilywhites are currently sitting 14th in the league table, it is understandable that Frank’s job is under severe pressure, although, will this role suit Amorim?

The Portuguese manager has only been out of work for a couple of weeks, and may not even fancy a move to Spurs, especially considering their current situation.

Despite winning the Europa League last summer, the North London side has many issues to deal with, and their underperformance is causing an increase in toxicity around the fanbase.

This is very similar to what was happening at United during Amorim’s tenure, which may sway him away from any potential opening if Frank were to depart in the near future.
