Ruben Amorim has approved of one Manchester United agreement which could now lead to an exciting talent heading out on loan next season.
Manchester United have completed their first signing of the summer transfer window as Matheus Cunha joined from Wolves.
The Reds are trying to work on other deals, with negotiations ongoing with Brentford over a potential deal for Bryan Mbeumo.
Meanwhile, those at Old Trafford are also trying to get player sales over the line with many players like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho likely to depart in the coming months.
It was also revealed by the club earlier this month that nine players were leaving at the end of their contracts this month, including three first-team players.
United agree to extend Heaton’s contract
Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf and Christian Erisken all had their farewell appearance at Old Trafford on the last game of the season in May against Aston Villa.
However, the club also confirmed that they had been in talks with Tom Heaton over a contract extension and it has now been revealed that an agreement has been reached.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday afternoon that United have reached an agreement with Heaton to stay at the club for another season.
It was explained that this move was approved by Amorim and his coaching staff, with Heaton set to remain as the third-choice ‘keeper until June 2026.
Harrison likely to head on loan next season
Heaton has only played three competitive fixtures for United since arriving back at the club in the summer of 2021 but the job of the third choice goalkeeper isn’t really to play on the pitch.
The role is much more related to training and off-pitch work. Heaton can offer some added experience to a dressing room that has a lot of younger players.
More importantly, though, this agreement means that United’s exciting young goalkeeper Elyh Harrison can head back on another loan next season.
There is no need for a young player to be your third choice ‘keeper and Harrison could get some experience in the Football League after succeeding at Chester FC in the first-half of last season.
The 19-year-old was described as ‘superb’ by Chester boss Calum Mclntyre but was recalled to United in order to get some experience in and around the first-team while also playing for the Under-21s.
Now though, it seems like a good time for him to head back on loan and get more professional minutes under his belt.
