Ruben Amorim and Wolves boss Vitor Pereira have shared the same assessment on Matheus Cunha as a move to Manchester United this summer looks inevitable.
Manchester United need to bolster their forward line in the summer as goalscoring has been a major issue under Ruben Amorim this term.
They are looking to sign a no.9 to take over Rasmus Højlund’s duties as the main striker, but the Reds also want to bring in attacking players to compliment that new goalscorer.
Matheus Cunha is the main target for that position in behind the striker and there have been major developments in recent weeks regarding the Wolves star.
After meetings with the player’s representatives, United are considered the favourites to land his signature in the summer even if they don’t qualify for the Champions League.
It has now been reported by Brazilian media that an agreement has been reached between Cunha and United for a summer move, with the Reds set to activate his £62.5 million release clause early in the window.
Amorim and Pereira completely agree on “special” Cunha
United have already received glowing references about Cunha, with his current boss Vitor Pereira predicting that he will reach “high standards” within the Premier League.
The Portuguese manager has explained how Cunha is a “special” talent and he will undoubtably be gutted to be losing him in the summer.
“He is a special player. He can do things that can make the difference in small details,” Pereira said of Cunha earlier this season.
“Matheus Cunha is a player, in my opinion, who can reach high standards in this league. I hope not [elsewhere] because we need him.”
Amorim has publicly praised the Brazilian as well, with his assessment being very similar to his fellow countryman Pereira.
“Cunha, all these guys have real quality,” the United boss said earlier this month. “I remember about Matheus, he’s scoring a lot of goals.”
Cunha should have immediate impact at United
Cunha ticks a lot of boxes at Old Trafford, with the most important being his ability right now to excel in the Premier League.
United have signed a lot of players who need time to adapt to the English league in recent years and they are continuing to bring in young players who won’t be standout performers immediately.
That makes players like Cunha a necessity to bring in, with the proven quality to improve United’s team as soon as he makes the move.
It is also beneficial that the Brazilian international has already played in a similar system to the one Amorim uses, and operates in the left no.10 position which United players have struggled to shine in.
Amorim and Pereira both see the quality that the player possesses and United fans will be hoping that he can produce that at Old Trafford after a deal is announced.
