Ruben Amorim and Omar Berrada disagreed on Manchester United signing, says president

Manchester United were offered to sign Valentín Gómez as a potential replacement for Lisandro Martínez in the January transfer window.
Ruben Amorim entered the mid-season window with a clear need for reinforcements at Manchester United.
Patrick Dorgu was brought in for around £25 million and addressed the biggest problem in Amorim’s squad – a lack of solid wingback options.
Ayden Heaven was also signed for just over £1 million from Arsenal to come in as a squad player for the backline.
However, on 2 February, panic alarms rang after Lisandro Martínez suffered an ACL injury in a defeat against Crystal Palace.
There were question marks about whether United would enter the market – which closed the following day – for an emergency option in the defence.
Amorim and Berrada disagreed on United signing
It has been revealed that United were offered the potential signing of Vélez Sarsfield centre-back Valentín Gómez in the final moments of the January market.
Gómez, 21, is a young left-footed defender who already has a lot of experience in Argentina but ended up not being an option United pursued.
The Argentinian side’s president, Fabián Berlanga, has claimed that he attempted to sell the player to United after hearing about Martínez’s injury.
However, he revealed that Amorim and Omar Berrada, the United CEO, were “divided” about the decision and ultimately agreed to ignore the option.
“It wasn’t a transfer; it was a termination. Once the player signs the payment commitment, he is free to do what he wants,” Berlanga told La Noticia, as per Sport Witness.
“Through someone I know, I asked Manchester United to find out if they wanted him because of Licha Martínez’s injury. It was divided between the CEO and the coach, and they said no.”
Yoro can make the most of United opportunity
United have instead decided to stick with their internal options and it seems like Leny Yoro could make the most of the opportunity at left centre-back.
The young Frenchman started against Ipswich Town on the weekend and produced a really strong performance even after the Reds went down to 10 men.
Yoro’s profile suits the role Amorim wants from his wide defenders and he seems comfortable in and out of possession on the left side.

It is likely that the summer signing continues to get chances and game-time in that position heading into the back-end of the season.
