“I told him…” Rúben Amorim’s 7-word message Alejandro Garnacho after “pathetic” Ipswich drama

Rúben Amorim has revealed what happened when he spoke to Alejandro Garnacho following his “pathetic” reaction to being substituted against Ipswich.
Manchester United turn their focus back to the FA Cup as they welcome Fulham to Old Trafford for a fifth-round clash on Sunday afternoon.
Their cup journey so far has included a tense penalty shootout victory over Arsenal after a 1-1 draw at the Emirates, followed by a dramatic 2-1 win against Leicester City, sealed by Harry Maguire’s injury-time strike.
Rúben Amorim’s men head into this fixture off the back of a 3-2 Premier League win over Ipswich Town, though their defensive vulnerabilities once again raised concerns.
With United sitting 14th in the league, the FA Cup remains their most viable route to Europa League qualification—unless they manage to triumph in Europe and secure a Champions League spot.
What Amorim told Garnacho
Against Ipswich, Alejandro Garnacho had to be substituted before half-time due to Patrick Dorgu’s red card, and he headed straight for the dressing room rather than sit on the bench with his teammates.
Although the player was understandably aggrieved at the early substitution, some fans labelled his reaction to walk down the tunnel “pathetic”, but Amorim has now cleared the air.
The head coach has explained that he told Garnacho, “At Manchester United, everything is an issue,” that there is no disciplinary problem, and the player will pay for dinner for the first-team squad.
“He came to me, to my office,” Amorim said when asked about the drama. “I did some investigation. He (Garnacho) went to dressing room, watched the game, then went home.
“It is not an issue but I told him that at Manchester United everything is an issue. At this club, perception is important. perception is important. He will pay for dinner for all the team. That is it.”

Amorim continued, explaining that he was happy Garnacho chose to speak with him the following day, which he feels shows an important part about his character.
“He is a young kid that will learn. The important thing is that in the next morning he was speaking with me. Zirkzee did the same thing [walking down the tunnel] but the context was different. We can deal with that and let’s just move on.”
