Rúben Amorim has admitted that three of his Manchester United players could miss the Europa League final as the club prepare for their most significant fixture this season.
Under Erik ten Hag, United won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, though they fell short in the 2023 FA Cup final against Manchester City.
While this marks their second Europa League final in five seasons, the current campaign has been defined by poor form and shocking defeats, with the team sitting 16th in the Premier League.
Lifting the trophy in Bilbao would secure Champions League football and give Amorim valuable momentum heading into a decisive summer.
Amorim admits three of his players could miss the final
On Wednesday afternoon, the United boss was asked about the latest on multiple injured players. Speaking about injured centre-back pairing Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, Amorim admitted that he doesn’t know if either player will be fit enough to play.
“I don’t know if they are going to be available,” Amorim explained to the press. “We are going to try and push because it is the final matches and there is a final.
“All the players want to play in that really bad. I don’t think they will go to Chelsea, but we will have a possibility to have some of them in the final.”
Further, the Portuguese head coach confirmed that right wing-back Diogo Dalot is also working hard to be fit for the Tottenham clash, but there is little guarantee that his compatriot will make it.
“Dalot is trying really bad,” Amorim further commented. “I don’t want to risk Dalot because when you start getting one injury, a second injury, it is a big thing. We cannot have these kinds of problems in our squad. We will see. He is working really hard to get in the final.”
Tottenham also facing major injury issues
While United are sweating on the fitness of three key players, Tottenham have also been hit with several injury blows ahead of the fixture in Bilbao.
James Maddison has been a prime creative force for Ange Postecoglu this season, but the player has been ruled out of the fixture after suffering from a knee injury earlier this month.
Young midfield star Lucas Bergvall has also been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, having damaging ligaments in his ankle during the final training session ahead of their Europa League semi-final first leg against Bodo/Glimt.
Finally, Tottenham recenly confimed that star winger Dejan Kulusevski has undergone surgery on his right patella after an injury on the weekend, meaning he will miss the final, too.
