Roy Keane slams Manchester United star for post-match comments vs Chelsea
Roy Keane has slammed one Manchester United star for their post-match comments after the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Manchester United took a point from their home clash against Chelsea on Sunday evening despite taking the lead with 20 minutes remaining.
Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot after Rasmus Højlund won a penalty. It was only five minutes before Enzo Maresca’s side equalised.
United remain 13th in the table and record their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign after 10 games.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will be somewhat pleased with the result, however, considering Chelsea have been in solid form so far this season and United have had major struggles.
Speaking after the game, Bruno Fernandes admitted that he feels responsible for the club sacking Erik ten Hag and that he has spoken to the Dutchman since his dismissal.
“We know that Erik [ten Hag] has gone, it is not good for anyone at the club when the manager goes. The team is not the best, the results are not the best and he is the one who pays for it,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.
“Whenever you see a manager go you have to take some of the blame on yourself, it is because the team is not doing so well.
“It is easier to get rid of a manager than 15 players. I spoke to the manager [Ten Hag] and apologised to him, I was disappointed he has gone and I tried to help him. I wasn’t scoring goals, we are not scoring goals and I feel responsible.
“I normally score a lot of goals but I always gave 100%. He is aware of that.”
However, while on punditry duty for the game, Roy Keane was not a fan of the comments from Fernandes, who he believes has not shown enough when things have been difficult for United.
“Too little, too late,” Keane said. “You are judged for what you have done on a football pitch. Bruno didn’t show that leadership, but you also have to move on.
“A lot of players don’t care that much, they just focus on the next manager. I don’t think Bruno has done enough as captain over the last year or so to help the manager out.
“He has not shown enough leadership skills when the going has got tough.”
