Roy Keane raves about “brilliant” Manchester United target after moment of genius
Roy Keane has waxed lyrical about a “brilliant” Manchester United target after a moment of brilliance in England’s latest fixture.
The Reds are already looking ahead to future transfer windows under INEOS and several potential targets have been shared in the media.
One of those is former United midfielder and Academy graduate Angel Gomes, who is currently playing at French club Lille.
Gomes departed Old Trafford at the end of his contract in the summer of 2022 despite making his debut at just 16 years of age in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.
The midfielder’s impressive form at Lille and with England’s youth teams led to a call-up to the senior England squad this season under interim manager Lee Carsley.
After making a strong impression in his debut performances last month, he was selected again for the October fixtures and started in the 3-1 win over Finland on Sunday evening.
He produced a strong performance and a standout assist for Jack Grealish’s opener with a brilliant turn and flick in behind the Finnish defence.
Gomes is also attracting interest ahead of his contract expiry next summer, with United one of the clubs reportedly keen to sign their former player.
At half-time during England’s win over Finland, former United captain Roy Keane raved about Gomes’ role in the opening goal, praising the midfielder’s “pure quality” assist.
Keane told ITV: “A real bit of quality. A brilliant goal, if you saw France or Spain score a goal like this you’d be praising them.
“Nice and patient, Gomes doing what you do, passing it forward, and he just seems to wander in there. Jack draws a few players over, which obviously helps him eventually when he gets in there.
“But this pass again, Trent [Alexander-Arnold], nice and simple. Sharp, these couple of touches from Gomes and this last piece… honestly. Pure quality.”
