Roy Keane provides glowing verdict on “quality” Manchester United target, he only lacks one key attribute

Roy Keane has already provided a glowing verdict on a ‘quality’ Manchester United target this summer even those he lacks one key attribute.

Manchester United have secured the signings of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon before the start of the club’s pre-season return.

They are also working on a deal to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo but that deal is dragging on for longer than many expected.

After the Cameroonian is secured, United will move to try and move for a striker and central midfielder, although those signings will depend on sales.

One potential solution for the Reds is to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus as they are prepared to offer the Brazilian in a swap deal for Jadon Sancho.

Keane provides glowing verdict on United target

Luiz, 27, was one of the star players at Aston Villa before his departure last summer and represents another Premier League-proven option for United.

The midfielder has also received a glowing review from United legend Roy Keane, who believes he is a ‘quality’ and ‘consistent’ player.

Keane’s only concern about the player is that he lacks pace in the middle, and that is reportedly a key attribute within Ruben Amorim’s demands for a midfielder.

“He turns up every week this player,” said Keane of Douglas Luiz when speaking on Sky Sports. “Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him,” the former Red Devils skipper continued.

“He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him.

“[He] probably lacks that real pace maybe. In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball, very, very good.”

Luiz a step in the right direction

Luiz is not the answer to United’s long-term midfield problems but he is certainly a good enough player to improve the quality in the engine room for now.

It is also beneficial if a move for the Juventus star allows United to finally wipe their hands of Sancho, who they are struggling to sell this summer.

Right now, United do not need every signing to be world-class and ready to win the Premier League. They have to make small steps in the right direction in some areas before reaching that point.

This seems like it could be one of those moves, but there is clear quality in Luiz’s game, as Keane has pointed out.
